The Importance of Spiritual Life with the Spiritual Man Written by: Dr. Apostle Beverly Smith     Topic: Learning the born again spirit.Theme:Why knowing your spirit is vital to your Christian life.Thesis statement: Learning why it is important to know the differences of our born again spirit, soul and body relative to living a successful faith filled Christian life as God intended.

INTRODUCTION: The purpose of salvation is being born again, spiritual life with the born again spiritual man. Jesus said “except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” (John 3:3 KJV)  Nicodemus communicated that we are already flesh born, Jesus acknowledged born of the flesh is flesh, and that born of the Spirit is spirit. (John 3:6 KJV) We need to be born of the spirit, “born from aboveborn anew; a spiritual birth that gives you the right away to enter into the kingdom of God. (Interlinear Bible ἄνωθεν, anōthen 509 Strong Concordance).  Marvel not that “you must be” a command of Jesus “be born again” and yet it’s a choice that we make.  We will learn the three parted nature of man and more specifically why the connections, activities and communications of God occur with the born again spiritual man. It is imperative that a believer follows Jesus example and learn the importance of the born again spiritual man, the reasons of being born from above, anew, the experiences he will encounter and the various functions of the born again spirit.

In the life of the Lord Jesus we have the example of the unhindered operations in the workings of the Holy Spirit in His life. Christians, therefore un-informed of the importance of their born again spirit and its operations, “fail to distinguish between spirit, soul and body will be fatal to spiritual growth.”  (Journeying towards the Spiritual Watchman Nee page 2)  Relative to the man born twice, our research will show why knowing your spirit is vital to your Christian life.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Nicodemus saith unto him, how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter the second time into his mother’s womb, and be born? Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, ye must be born again. (John 3:1-8 KJV)

Dr. Kenneth Hagin refers to the born again spirit as the first dimension of man, “who possesses a soul and lives in a body. Man’s spirit is that part of him that knows God and he is in the same class with God.” He also stated, “God is Spirit and God made us in His image and after His likeness to fellowship with Him, we were made for God’s pleasure.” (Kenneth Hagin, Spirit, Soul and Body page 4) According to scripture we are a three part being, even though some scholars believe we are only a two part being this will be one of the areas we will explore. (I Thessalonians 5:23; Hebrews 4:12)

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (I Thessalonians 5:23)

God is Spirit, so is man spirit. Jesus in the scriptures emphatically tells us we must be born again; it’s a requirement and necessary to be born spiritually. Man being in the image and likeness of God, has within his born again spirit the capabilities of communing with God.  Jesus told the woman at the well in Samaria, “God is Spirit: and they that worship HHH  im must worship Him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). Communication and worship with God is spiritual, because God is Spirit; so we connect with Him with our spirit, and it is through our spirit that we intuitively come to know God. We are created after His Image and Likeness, we are partakers of God’s nature, Jesus declared He is one in the Father and we are one in them. (Genesis 1:26; John 17:21) Believers live and die never having reached their full potential of living truly in the dimension of their spirit.

Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. (John 3:7)

And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins; (Ephesians 2:1)

Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and  abideth forever. (I Peter 1:23)

Non-believers function out of their soul, believers should function out of their born again spirit being led by the Holy Spirit. If Christians function in the same manner sinners functions from the soul, they invariably operate on the same level and are unable to receive revelatory truth that comes from God. The framework of our discovery will undoubtedly relate the importance of Christians operating via their born again spirit. Christians easily substitute the thoughts or emotions of the soul for the works of the born again spirit which are not one and the same. Therefore, he limits himself to the soul, powerless to experience life in the spirit with the spiritual man which is God’s design for connecting spiritually to Him.

If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. (Galatians 5:25)

There are various views about the nature of man; most people agree we have a physical body and an immaterial part the soul, the dichotomy view. The disagreement begins with the trichotomy view the nature of man having a spirit, soul and body; I agree with this view.  Scholarship argues over the dichotomy (two-partedness) or trichotomy (three-partedness) and “outside the evangelical view there is the Monism view which is only one element and that is the body the person.” (Systematic theology Wayne Gruden page 473) Another argument could be over a four part nature of man, we are to love the Lord with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength, according to the scriptures. (Mark 12:30; Luke 10:27)

Certainly the aspects of man’s nature can be looked at in various ways. However, research will support the three-fold nature of man, the tracheotomy view. Within the arguments it has been noted the soul and spirit are one and the same, we will endeavor to prove that man is a three part being according to scripture and examine the arguments of dichotomy and monism. The three part dimension of man’s nature is important, the body, soul and spirit together are one and should work in harmony with each other.

The command that Jesus gave, you must be born again, is nothing new to our spiritual life. We tell others you must be born again and confess that I am a born again Christian. But do we really know what that means? I have heard people say that means I’m saved, I’m a Christian, I have eternal life, all of that is true, but there’s something more vital to our born again man. This born again man is spirit and is to be the dominate part of man that rules so he can be led by the Spirit of God, the soul and body in conjunction to this leading.

God connects to and communicates with the born again spirit. As Believers we must not fail to train the soul and body to yield itself to the born again spirit man. Christians often think what comes from the soul as something coming from the Holy Spirit, and therefore live out of the soul thinking that they are living a Spirit led life. The soul’s nature is the will, intellect and emotions relative to that dimension of man. It takes the word of God to divide the three so we can function the way God created us to live. (Hebrews 4:12)

In conclusion, we have many books teaching us about the Holy Spirit, how to hear from God, how to be led by the Spirit, how to walk with God etc., as well as teachings that define the soul and the body. However we do not have a lot of teaching that emphasis’s the importance about whom, why and how to know and distinguish the dimension of the born again spirit. The born again spirit is used to communicate with the spiritual world, the soul and body with the natural world, and amazingly the soul stands between and exercises its power to discern and decide whether we allow the Lord, or satan and this natural world to reign in our lives. We will discover in this research how the soul has taken control over man through its thoughts, will and its emotions; therefore through the soul we live from its own ideas. In order for our born again spirit to govern, which is God’s order, the soul must give its consent. Otherwise, the born again spirit is helpless to regulate the soul and the body and therefore cannot fulfill its full potential to be led by the Holy Spirit. The amazing thing is making decisions is up to the soul part of man, for there in the soul lives the personality of the man.

“God desires that the spirit, being the noblest part of man, to control the whole being. Yet, the will—the crucial part of individuality-belongs to the soul. It is the will, which determines whether the spirit, the body, or even itself is to rule. If man’s spirit is divorced from the divine Spirit it becomes as useless as the other parts of man. We should never reverse the order of man’s spirit and the Holy Spirit.” So it is essential that our soul learn to submit to our born from above spirit, learn the reasons, the experiences it will encounter and the various functions it operates in.  To be continued…
